摘　　要： D．H．劳伦斯是一位有争议却不失伟大的作家．纵现他的一生，他致力于人类救赎和艺术创新，以自己的艺术主张来寻求摆脱异化的机械社会的途径．他笔下的性描写含有某种形而上的社会批评意义．主要论述劳伦斯艺术创作的严肃性和独创性，以说明作家在文学史上不可替代的重要地位． Controversial as he is, D. H. Lawrence is a great writer. All through his life he is constantly in pursuit of human emancipation and artistic creation in his own fashion, with a view to curing the body-atrophied mechanical society. Among other things, hc makes a breakthrough in the forbidden area of sex description and endows sex with some metaphysical and symbolic meanings as an antidote to the mechanical society, which has some critical significance. This paper mainly probes into his solemn themes and originality of his artistic creation in order to expound his irreplaceable position in the gallery of English literature, cvcn world literature.
