Indonesia played a very important role in American policy towards China before Sino-American relations thawed. John E Kennedy highly valued American national power and influence on the non-alignment world, and his intention for allying America with Indonesia to contain & isolate China was much stronger than Eisenhower. However, the intensified contradiction between America and its allies surrounding the issues of West New Guinea and Malaysia prevented him in a degree from possibly adopting extreme policies of pulling Sukarno into anti-Chinese track. In the end, Kennedy Administration's Policy of Alliance with Indonesia to contain and isolate China only ran counter to its original intention.
