摘　　要： 汉语作为中国文化的主要载体,几个世纪以来在西方学界所经历的曲折命运却难以让炎黄子孙乐观。中西比较文学的先行者,美国汉学家刘若愚对汉语特性及其本质的深入研究无疑为扫除西方学界对汉语的偏见作出了卓越贡献,不仅如此,他对中西语言观的深入开掘还为中西比较文学的进一步发展指明了新的努力方向。 As a main Sinitic vehicle.Chinese has for centuries had a tough fate in the western academia which allows of no optimism for the Chinese people.A forerunner of Sino-occidental comparative literature,Amerian sinologist Liu Ruoyu's deep research into the attributes and nature of the Chinese language no doubt makes great contribution to an elimination of the Western academia's prejudice against the Chinese language.More than that, his deep excavation of the Sino-occidental philosophy of language demonstrates a new direction for the further development Sino-occidental comparative literature to head for .
