摘　　要： This article makes a survey of the general historical writings in China in the 20 th century.The author argues that general historical writings emerged on the stage of history as weapons of popularizing historical ideas of progress,democracy and science.They then became important texts for training new hitorians and essential “arts” for professional cultivation.
