摘　　要： 为了更准确地描写二十世纪中国翻译理论，在对严复的“信、达、雅”、傅雷的“神似”和钱钟书的“化境”作了简要概括的同时，我们将中国翻译理论同西方翻译理论进行了分析、比较，对中国翻译理论的几个区别性特征进行了探讨。中国翻译理论学家往往借用中国传统诗说和画论中的术语来描写翻译活动，倾向于对译文作印象式的主观评价，而整体上缺乏精确严密的分析，对用语言学方法来从事翻译研究没有加以足够重视。此外。 To define twentieth-century Chinese translation theory more precisely , we first briefly sum up Yan Fu's “fidelity, fluency and elegance”, Fu Lei's “l ikeness in spirit”, and Qian Zhongshu's “realm of transformation”. At the sa me time, we probe into the distinguishing characteristics of Chinese translation theory against the background of Western views. As shown in the paper, Chinese theorists are inclined to borrow terms from traditional Chinese poetics and pain ting criticism and make impressionistic comments on translated works. Chinese th eorists, on the whole, do not attach much importance to linguistic approaches to wards translation. Hence their theories lack analytical rigor. Besides, the demarcation line between Chinese translation theory and criticism is indistinct.
