Chinese comparative literature is a characteristic phenomenon of Chinese humanities out of the internal need of vernacular literature in the context of global communication. The major difference between Chinese comparative literature and Western comparative literature lies in the fact that, from the very beginning, it is based on Chinese literary tradition, and tries to cross over the boundaries between Chinese and Western cultures in order to establish mutual understanding, complementarity, and transaction between heterogeneous cultures. Chinese comparative literature is the third phase in the development of world comparative literature. It strives to reach the goal of trans-cultural communication, to keep up the status quo of multi-cultures,and to establish a balanced world of multipolarity under the banner of humanism.
