After the May 13 Riots in 1969, the ministerial coalition of United Malay National Organization (UMNO), Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA)and Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) was replaced by the National Front led by UMNO. The formation of the National Front has changed the pattern of Malaysian Chinese political powers. The situation has evolved from one formerly ruling party (MCA)vs. several Malaysian Chinese opposition parties to one opposition party (Democratic Action Party) vs. several Malaysian Chinese ruling parties. The article argues that although more Malaysian Chinese parties have joined the ruling coalition, it has not increased the political influence of the Malaysian Chinese. On the contrary, the interest of Malaysian Chinese society has been weakened at some extent.
