With a variety of styles and characteristics completely different from those of the commodity market, entertainment boosted the growth and development of the municipal market in its interaction with it. Commercialism was prevalent in recreational activities, and gradually functional trade organizations came into being. The emergent townspeople were dominant in entertainment; their social mobility and permeation fostered market integration, and their culture formed the main thread running through the whole entertainment market. Lin'an's special immigrant culture endowed the market with a lively atmosphere. Its entertainment market's emergence has symbolic significance in the history of traditional market development and civic culture.
