摘 要: 传统的社会语言学理论在分析性别变体的形成时常常表现出过度概括的倾向。以行为集团为语言分析单位 ,对性别变体的形成进行研究使我们认识到 :个体的言语行为和其生物性别并没有直接的联系。个体参与不同的活动 ,在不同的行为集团中 ,构建了各自的社会性别 ,并表现出相应的行为特征 ; People are prone to overgeneralize with traditional theories in language and gender research. The community of practice,a useful alternative to traditional models, turns out to be more comprehensive and valuable when we endeavor to explain linguistic variations between male and female. As an activity based approach, the community of practice emphasizes the fact that one's linguistic practice has little to do with his sex, but rather, one constructs his gender in different communities of practice while he engages himself in various social practice, and inevitably,he develops his gender preference in the process, either masculinity or femininity.Linguistic variations between male and female emerge as one negotiates his gender and other aspects of his identities through practice.
