摘　　要： “美国梦”源于英国对美国的殖民时期 ,发展于 19世纪。它认为每一个人 ,不管他的出身如何 ,只要努力奋斗 ,就一定会获得成功。然而现实是残酷的 ,许多人并不能实现他们的“美国梦” ,有的人甚至以死亡结局。《马丁·伊登》、《了不起的盖茨比》和《美国悲剧》从不同的历史时期和角度揭示了“美国梦” Jack London(1867～1916)F.Scott Fitzgerald(1895～1940)and Theodore Dreiser(1871～1945)are great American Writers.Although they lived in the different times of America,London's Martin Eden,Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and Dreiser's An American Tragedy all share the same theme-tragedy of the American Dream. The American Dream arose in the colonial period and developed in the nineteenth century,based on the assumption that each person,no matter what his origin was,could succeed in life on the sole basis of his own skill and effort.But the reality was cruel and many people couldn't fulfill their dreams but end in failure,some of them even ended with a tragic ending-death.The three novels' leading characters all ended in death and the novels show us from different times and different angles that the American Dream is corrupted and easily broken.
