摘　　要： １８９０年前后，在新式学校──上海格致书院里，有两位令人瞩目的岭东潮州 大埔籍青年学者杨毓辉、杨史彬。他们提出中西兼学，发展工商、振兴土货、以收利权； 设立议院以通下情；去秽政、除厘捐、以便商民；仿西法、设善堂、实行社会救济等洋务 思想。值得加以评价、研究。 At the new-type Gezhi School in Shanghai around 1890,there emerged two brilliant young students YANG Yuhui and YANG Shibin from Dabu County,Eastern Guangdong Province.This paper, quoting rich materials, itemizes those points worthy of valuation the westernization idea ex- pressed by them as follows: study both traditional Chinese and Westem learnings,develop industry and commerce and promote local goods so as to secure benefits and rights, set up parliament so as to find out the popular feelings and wishes, quit notorious politics and exorbitant taxes and levies so as to benefit merchants and the bud masses of people,imitate Western ways and set up social relief facilities,and so on and so forth.
