摘　　要： 由于文化的差异以及思维方式的不同,英汉两种语言存在种种不同的表达方式,其中一点就是正、反表达的不同。许多英语用正面形式表达的意思,如果改用汉语,就要从反面表达才清楚。反之亦然。人们经常用来作例子的Wet Paint,汉语习惯从反面表达:“油漆未干”。又如,看见一个人倒在地上,关心他的人就会问:Are youall right?这种从正面的发问,如果改用汉语,就得改成从反面发问“没事吧?”“没什么吧?”,不能照搬英语而问“你好吗?” This paper gives a survey of the different cases in which an idea, affirmative in mode of expression in English, takes the negative form in Chinese. In exploring the different factors that cause such a transformation, three categories are presented: (1) words with negative implication (2) special constructions with negative implication (3) different ways of thinking between English and Chinese. The paper further makes a comparative analysis of each of them, aiming at presenting some rules to follow.
