英语中介语句法范畴变异的动态研究——一项对儿童和大学生的跟踪调查

摘  要: 本文依据EA理论、IL理论对我国第二语言学习者学习第二语言(英语)的过程进行探索性的、定性研究和分析。本文作为整个研究的一个部分,着重介绍、分析学龄儿童和大学生在习得句法范畴(或词性)过程中所表现出的具有普遍意义的变异型式和特征,旨在为我国环境下的第二语言习得理论和现时的外语教学、教材。 he present paper is a report on a study of nine school children′s errors in the English parts of speech, as compared with some Chinese university students of English major and adult learners. It is part of a whole longitudinal study of Chinese children in learning English as a foreign language. As Chinese EFL learners′ errors are potentially important for the understanding of their underlying learning strategies and consequently for the planning of school courses and teaching incorporating the psychology of second language learning, what this paper attempts to do is to discover what′s really behind the Chinese EFL learners′errors and what patterns these typical errors tend to have. It holds that the more we know about learners′errors, the more likely we are to be successful in the EFL teaching and learning in the Chinese context.The case study started in the spring of 1993. Liu Quan , my son aged 7 then, is my first informant. From then on over ten school children joined in my study groups at different times. The 44 errors singled out here were from two main sources: my diary and the subjects′ both written and oral exercises including coursebook exercises, compositions and the experimenter′s elicitation tasks. The errors were categorized into ten error types in terms of syntactic structure and analyzed in a contrast between children and university student as well as adult learners.The errors produced by our subjects suggest a consistent pattern and a striking similarity between children and adults . Some errors like ‘this car pretty’,‘I very hot ’are believed to be made not only by the Chinese speakers but also by speakers of other languages such as Japanese, Spanish(cf. also Terence Odlin 1989). These findings suggest that some learner errors are those that speakers of any languages can′t easily escape because of language universals and language acquisition device.That doesn′t imply however, learners need do nothing but commit as many errors as a normal human can tolerate.
